They never turned it off when it didn't cool. Replaced OD unit, line set and indoor coil.

Ohhhh, scroll slime, love that stuff!
Had a customer that didn't want to change the lines and coil once. 3 weeks and 5 sets of filter driers and conversations with 3 different tech reps later, he finally gave in and let us change them, heh.
Gota love it when your vaccume pump oil looks like green snot after evacuating a system.
If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.

Green stuff
The system had a leak on the suction accum. The customer kept running it when it was out of gas. Sucked moisture and non-condensables into the system and caused oxidation. Oil was green also. When you see this, tear it all out or walk (run)away. I tried to clean one up and it never was right. One I did clean up after 2K many driers and changing oil in the new (in warranty)compressor. Just ain't worth it.

Green slime comes from moisture and the oil used in early Copeland scroll systems. Stinks too!

Saw that serveral times.
Went to a building with new systems and old GE unit was slamming the coil-full of ice where they pulled gutter down for addition. Pulled plug and could hear air blowing out tthe coil.
4 MONTHS later they decide to get us to replace CONDENSOR only. Cut line and antifreeze looking oil runs out. Time to buy whole new system.Col 3:23

green slime doesn't have to come come from a scroll. it is copper oxide. it just means severe acid in the system. lots of moisture/oxygen/heat. copper from tubing/coils is dissoling in the oil. It can acually replate on bearings in the compessors and cause them to tightenup so much they will lock up.
If You don't have time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?

Too true!
Been slimed way before scrolls and many since. Usually is the physical mixture of refrigeration and laziness.Originally posted by pulaskihvacr

Re: Too true!
You nailed that one Stamas! LAZINESS! That's as bad as using #2 for vacuum pump oil, but that is another story.Originally posted by Stamas

Once you smell slime, you NEVER forget it! This will get worse with POE oils.
