Intent. A crazed man screaming.
Opportunity. He was certainly close enough to cause bodily harm.
Ability. Swinging a tire tool makes him able to cause serious bodily harm.

well, as soon as the nut job went around to the drivers door and smashed the window it became a car jacking.

Car jacking is a felony...........during the commission of a felony you may use deadly force, no weapon needs to be visible or used by the assailant.

Include the violent intent and psychotic action and you have a right to terminate the assault with whatever means necessary to prevent bodily harm.
