what duty?
I was born in 1970.and since then, this country has been led by crooks, liars and manipulators.this country has been reeling because of the directions taken by our leaders. In my lifetime there hasn't been a military action that has occurred to ,"protect my freedom".that is a sad joke.these days the soldiers are the muscle of the wall street investors.(not that they haven't been for the past century,at least.)("War is a racket"USMC Gen. Smedley butler,1935)("merchants of death",a study of the international armaments industry,1934)
why assume if you love your country you should join the service?that may have been true 40 yrs. ago,but not anymore.the "training programs"(rob&sage,ft.bragg) going on in the services are getting distinctly like crowd control.even fema plans are written that if there was mass dissent of the citizens ,the constitution can be suspended, and martial law imposed.by US troops acting like UN troops in our country.so,there are sides forming these days.and the right one exists in and out of the military.
though I have many friends that were/are in many parts of the military,I seriously question this blind obediance, you guys are indoctrinated with.
there is a serious dissconnect between your cock-eyed sense of patriotism and your blind acceptance of the two party trap that grips our democracy(which if you get down to it is because this is a republic.and the group of people that have de facto control of the levers of power of this republic,do not have the honor and character that is needed to resist the slouching towards gemorrah, that we(republicans/democrats):and the country are going.
and you guys are just happy to pick a side and ride the ship down.service...pah!service to what?exxon, halliburton, bechtel
and that blind acceptance that the people at the top of the chain of command,en masse.,are not willing to sacrifice all the "expendables",you&me$everybody but them,to achieve success;dishonorably.
so "duty" is a dated, loaded word.what is your duty?what is mine?if only it were that easy.

I forgot to mention Sgt E-5.
See I told you we would tell who has and who hasn't and I knew Clyde the conspiracies freak had not and would not serve.
You know Clyde its not that you dont have any valid points but you are way of the deep deep end.
Duty is what you owe this country for what it provides you the freedom to speak your mind without fear. Try doing that in almost any other country in the world.
Your level of economic freedom is also well above what any other country offers; even our welfare poor live better than many in other countries that work every day and are considered middle class.
I am betting you have never been outside this country that you despise so much. Hell you are only 34 you don't have a clue.
As for the wars that have not protected our country and freedom think again.
Vietnam for all its faults as well as Korea stalled the communist and prevented them from expanding their sphere of influence. Consider for one moment the possibilities of not having stopped the Chinese from taking over South Korea the next would have been Japan and Taiwan. Then if we had not stalled them in Vietnam until the mid 70's all of Southeast Asia not just Cambodia. That would of course eventually included India Pakistani and the rest of the Pacific Rim. Russia would have moved right through Afghanistan into Iran Iraq and into the Middle East.
So where would we be today if that had happened this country would be a true third world country because the communist movement would control all of the oil and we would dependent upon them for our economy. We have seen where that got the Warsaw Pact countries and China and North Korea.
The cold war we fought in Europe was just as important because it kept Russia at bay and believes me they wanted to come out from behind that Iron Curtain very badly.
It is easy to sit in a chair in a nice home safe and secure postulating nonsense about the elite keeping us downtrodden. Reading a bunch of conspiracy books by people that are as troubled and mind numbed as your are is easy if it weren't you wouldn't do it.
You truly don't know the meaning of duty or honor or self-sacrifice. That takes an awareness of the world and life and you can't get there reading books by people that are frightened because they can't do the just string words together and fools buy their books and make them a living for doing nothing.
