All of a sudden I have all these pop up adds poping up on my computer whenever I am on the web.
Even here on HVAC I am getting pounded with them. What's going on and how can I stop these things?

I know some of the guys on here use them and can tell which is best but there are some nice pop up killers available.
Also do a Google search for a thing called "cwshreader" it is freeware and will scan you entire computor and get rid of hijackers. Adaware is good to for spyware.

They make a free popup stopper. Works great. Wouldn't surf without it these days.
I have 2 spyware programs. They won't stop popups.

If your getting popup ads on this site you definately have some spyware/adware on your computer, use the program freezeking linked, update it before you scan also.
Then do a search for "spywareblaster" that program will prevent the stuff from ever being installed in the first place.
also for the web based popups try Mozilla Firefox, or if you insist on using IE get the google toolbar, I use both and havent seen a popup ad in years

Panicware.....I agree with Baldy
I've used panicware's pop-up stopper for a long time and have virtually no problems with pop-ups at all.

I use Spybot from http://www.download.com/Spybot-Searc....html?tag=list it's a free download that stops the adware before it can even get in and start pop-ups. The XP SP2 pop-up blocker has proved itself to me, it works. If you don't get it, go to msn.com and get thier free pop-up blocker, it works too.
Whatever you get for pop-ups though just make sure you get the spybot or another spyware blocker. If you stop the skyware and adware you can't get the pop-ups in the manner you are anyhow. There are 3 ways to do anything in life; Good, Fast, Slow: You can pick any 2.

There is one problem with doing all of that yourself...you need to know what you're getting rid of and you may make a huge mistake. Just like we preach "no diy'ers" here, well the same could apply because you could delete an important file. Better find someone who knows what he's doing and looking for.
P.S. Stop surfing the porn and that will help
08-29-2004, 07:05 PM #13I downloaded the Google toolbar. It comes with a free pop-up blocker.
