Lots of TXV failures in everything. Trane had been using Sporlan, even had a bulletin out on the R22 versions. I think Rheem uses Emerson as you say. Less of a problem with them.
I'm just starting out as a new technician working for one of the P/T teachers from our community college HVAC/R program in Alabama. Very thankful for my job with him btw...My question is this. Have anybody else been seeing alot of TXV failures in these new American Standard/Trane units, and the Rheems as well. I believe they're Emerson valves. Seems like my boss has been replacing a large percentage of these within the first year.

e have also replaced many Trane expansion valves although i think our installers is a big part of the problem but i could be wrong
I haven't had any problems with any of the systems we have installed in the last year or more.
If you are still seeing a "large" percentage of TXV failures, there may be an installer issue...
The indoor TXV on my R22 Goodman lasted 3 years. Tech diagnosed that the power head lost its charge and it failed closed. I believe it was a Parker TXV.
their all
or is it....
They all fail.
My doctor gave me six months to live, but when I couldn't pay the bill he gave me six months more.

Thanks for the responses
does any body here have concrete evidence, as to what is the most common cause for a bad txv. i would venture to guess it would be a poor install without using nitrogen while brazing, or not pumping the system down because they want to get done early etc. just want to know what people think the most common reason for failure in any make of txv. thanx
