Going to see it tonite with Son #3.
Saw first Alien when Son #2 was like 6mos old, Alien appeared, wife screamed loud, son cried and dad ended up in lobby for most of movie looking thru glass window in door while holding baby. Last movie I took wife to.

Son #3 said all us old folks are going to see this movie rather than like with Spiderman where it's mostly younguns.

This true? Where were you at in life when Signorey Weaver battled the beast? 25yrs ago already?

Since it was originally released over 40 years ago, I'm surprised you remember it.

Hmm. I thought apes couldn't swim.

AVP has the potential to be a lot of fun. But I'm betting it'll be a typical sci-fi B movie that's long on special effects and gore and short on anything worth a darn.

As a kid I used to watch all those monster movies. I think Godzilla battled just about anything you could come up with.

I was living in Dallas working in concrete construction. Went with wife to see the first "Alien". That was in 1979, true enough. At that time I thought it was the best sci-fi/horror flick ever. Still ranks in the top 3 with me.

If this flick is anything like Freddy vs. Jason...

    I've gotta go see it.

I reluctantly went to see Alien when it came out. I was put off by the vague ads with the cracking egg and the statement "in space, no one can hear you scream". I figured it was going to be stupid. I was wrong.

I agree it is one of the best Sci-Fi thrillers ever made. Somewhat in a genre of it's own. As a side note, Predator was also in it's own catagory of horror/action film.

The much later sequel was just as much a pleasant surprize in the Sci-Fi Action genre. I even enjoyed the more oddly done third movie which I think very well set the stage for the very underated Alien Ressurection which I think is a work of art.

    Looking forward to AVP.

Well, it grossed 38 million over the weekend due to the hype/advertisement and riding on the shirtails of the previous movies.

"Alien vs. Predator, which cost about $60 million to make, marks the sixth consecutive movie to open above $20 million for Fox.
The film, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, stars Sanaa Lathan as an adventurer who stumbles upon an ancient rivalry between Aliens and Predators inside a pyramid buried under the Antarctic. Males made up about 70 percent of the audience, according to polling conducted on Friday, said Bruce Snyder, Fox's president of domestic theatrical distribution.
It far surpassed any opening from either of the franchises. Alien 3 launched with $19.5 million in 1992, while 1987's Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, opened to $12 million"

It was too far off of reality for me. I enjoyed the Predator when it was kicking the chit out of Arnold and the Aliens were scary in their own movies but when they pitted them together someone got too far off in left field with the science. That lost it.

1). Predator ship sends down a beam to burn a hold in the ice to reach the pyramid maze. What's with the equally spaced grooves in the tunnel, Spock?

2). One of the combatants says that he figures the maze changes every ten minutes, but then at one point it no longer does any changing.

    3) Several others but that's todays Hollywood. I'll try http://www.nitpickers.com and see what else is said about this.

$) Wasn't worth the twenty bucks. (Sent son to get large pop and popcorn.)
He had 9 bucks left from twenty we gave ticket window.
He came back with only popcorn, said he didnt have enough for both. At least you get free refills.
