iPads, Zoning and geothermal control integration?

I have a customer who is doing a 6 ton and a 4 ton water furnace geothermal system. Each system will have 4 zones and he would like to be able to control his zones from anywhere in his house on an iPad/iPod/Web Enabled Computer. I am not even sure where to start looking. Anybody know of a good home automation company in portland OR or a system that might take care of some of these needs?

    TIA

I have no experience with these guys, but if you want integration with ipad, then it may be a good place to look.

There are a couple of Niagara AX apps for the iPhone. There should be a couple of Tridium integrators in the Portland area that can accomplish what your client wants.

    Apps:

    eBMS/Mobile
    Energy Communicator

Here is a link to an earlier thread with links to those apps.

Search "HVAC" in the apps store for some more HVAC/Home Automation apps.

(1)- SmartServer 2.0, (2) LonMark AHU controllers, and (1) geek should do it.

Zoned out on the 4 zones - add (4) LonMark SCC controller from one or more of the following vendors; Circon, Distech, TAC, Honeywell, Siemens , JC, Siemens, Trane, Schnieder, or Trend.

I wonder what a BACkNet system would look like?

Easily accomplished with Johnson NCE for AHU's and FEC's for each zone. Only software the customer will have to buy is the ready access portal. Bacnet

Only JC can play in that architecture? Oh, and a dedicated Windows PC is required too? And, with the LON architecture, the customer doesn't need to buy any software.

    BTW, I ride a 250SX - you BB?

Install a Loytec Linx or L-Vis and any BACnet or Lonworks controllers. Use a VNC server to access either from a PC or smart phone. Loytec software for these devices is free and VNC servers are free downloads on the net.

OBTW. The Loytec L-Vis is a color touch screen graphical interface for the control system that is ethernet capable

Keep in mind that at this point the iPhone (and I'm guessing iPad) do not support Adobe Flash, so if your solution uses this it probably will not display your graphics correctly on a Iphone/Ipad unless you use a remote desktop type app to a PC.

I too love this simple approach, but what browsers can you use with the Smart server 2.0? I know with the iLon100e3 you can only use Internet Explorer (or IE Tab in Firefox). I can't find anything to make an iLon100e3 work on my Droid. I end up using a remote desktop.

Does this have to work on an iPod, or can we specify that he use a smart phone instead?

kl, I'm pretty sure Smart Server 2 supports other browsers. I'll be working on one this week and let you know for sure unless someone else already has the answer.

I am not a big fan of applying commercial systems to residential applications. The typical homeowner likes the old t87. This guy might think he wants to mess with his heating but eventually someone will own the place and want a set and forget system.

That said I think I saw a honeywell system somewhere in the literature that had a Jace or something coordinating conventional T-Stats over a LON. The central box came with a database all set up for the stats (T7350 stats maybe?).

I think Aprilaire or Jackson Systems may have something like this too. Nice to use a name like Honeywell in the residential market though. That old round thermostat sure has given people confidence in the H brand.

    Looks like time for Google.

Yes it HAS TO WORK on an iPad/iPod, however I just found this...
www.in2networks.com connects into a honeywell Envirazone panel that can run up to 9 zones with modules and has an ipod app as well as worldwide access outside of your LAN. $350 or so for the part plus the zone panel and IAQ thermostats, not bad for price either.

Yeah, I sell those occasionaly, i personally don't like them, they are not very user friendly IMO plus they don't do what I need for zones.

    9,000 SQ FEET!!!

Theater rooms that are only used from 7-10PM at night, master that needs to be colder the the rest of the house, golf simulator room and exercise room that heat up differently, but... just to name a few?
