HVAC Size
How do you tell how big a unit is and how big it needs to be sufficient. I was told 1 ton for every 1,000 feet, but don't really know.

A load calc to tell what capacity you need.

There is a rule of thumb method, and it works. SOMETIMES! It is not advisable to simply use a general rule as you don't account for heat load. It can be a costly mistake. If you want to know the size of your unit you have to decipher the nomenclature on the data plate.
