Do a search here about ladder cranes. They seem pretty neat.

Get a 3 ton winch and a chain..
chain the winch to the ladder rung about 3 from the top have a guy at the bottom to make sure the ladder don't kick out up ya go...
I've used it to lift compressors up to 15 hp..
also get a real heavy duty ladder...
hope this helps

Agreed. We had an agreement with a local company to provide boom trucks or cranes for any job that needs one. They usually pick up the equipment or compressor off the dock at the shop and deposit it most times right into the unit or in place. They also haul the old stuff back for us and their charges are very reasonable. I have used a ladder crane and those things work really well. We had one for a while until it grew legs and walked off.

I have never seen or heard of a ladder crane. I hate when I have to send a helper or an apprentice with a tech to pull a 3 to 5 ton compressor up on a roof. I know how hard it is. Used to do it all the time by myself becuase there is always a job going on somewhere where a helper was needed and a tech ended up having to go out on a quoted job to help where a only one tech and a helper were pricced. It happens to me all the time right now so I tell my project managers and estimators to price all labor as mechanics unless we need to be really tight on the pricing. I will be buying the one with the electric hoist on Monday.

I work with the Chiller Whisperer...
I use a little giant ladder and a chain fall as I always end up doing 15 ton scrolls by myself. You always have to use your brain and save the body.
Nope, no racist here! Heck, I've got lots of rigger friends, my best man was a rigger, and I donate to all the rigger charities! :-)Originally posted by sonc
