I do pm's & service for a lime company. With constant lime dust all over the compound.Condensors get wrapped with micromat filter material to prtect them.filters get changed every week.I spent four hours today cleaning off an evaporator. It had to be combed clean because the lime dust solidifies on coils just like lime motar.Any of you guys want to share the service calla that you dread?I hate it when this place calls, you just know that you are going to be covered in lime dust & you take only the tools you absolutely have to in there lol.
Take your time & do it right!

I had to do a bunch of work in a biscuit/pancake/flour making company. We had to wear hair nets and everything- and I mean everything would be covered with flour. You could blow you nose and create a batch of biscuits. Then, when we left the little rubber band thing around the hair net would leave a mark of the forehead for hours. Really, really looked stupid.

I do a lot of work at a paint factory. A gray pigment powder is on, and in, everything.
Blowing out, unclogging, etc. is a constant source of income for me.
A ansty place to work, but they pay well.

I can relate...
While doing a remodel on a Taco Bell a few years back. Was hooking up all the gas equipment and doing a test and calibration on all cooking equipment. I was standing by the frier and rethermalizer.
Another contractor working above ceiling tile pulls the ansel cable by accident.
What is the name of that old song? "No where to run to baby... Nowhere to hide..."

the first job i got when i started my cpom[any was in a chocolate mill. they took the cocoa beans and ground them for the major chocolate companies. WHAT A MESS! but the one i like even less is a wax packaging facility. they make all kinds of different products, liquid wax gets molded into various sizes for shipping. needless to say, there is wax all over everything. piles of it all over the floor from leaking valve packings, pump seals, you name it. this is a very low margin business with help that cant be making much more than minimum wage. every time i get a call there i cringe, but they do pay well, and they are allowing me to slowly brings things up to where they need to be.

Working over a coke anode bake furnace. 178 degrees today with hot coke dust choking you down. Supervisors will only let you 30 minutes on the overhead cranes then 30 minutes in the cool down room. I am WAY TOO OLD for this!!

07-28-2004, 08:45 PM #12Working on/in a large walk'in at a Dog food factory. Rotten fish, pig, cow, chicken all the good stuff.
The absolute worst smell you could imagine. I was stuffing toilet paper up my nose, that didn't even help me sometimes. I have no idea how they (the employees) could do it day in and day out. I was there 8hrs and wanted to crawl out of my skin when I got back in the truck.Sometimes when I consider what tremendous consequences come from little things, I am tempted to think there are no little things!

Walk in freezer down over long weekend at mink farm. They ground there own food. Dead chickens, poultry, roadkill, rotted meat from stores, any thing they could get for free. They'd just throw the chickens in feathers, guts, and all. Flys so thick you didn't dare breathe without a mask. But...They never had a problem paying a premium for service. Just glad to find someone who would show up.
