I was you a few years ago. I gathered alot of info both from here and contractors and got 4 bids, and finally went w/Amana. All contractors were nice and didn't mind a few questions and doing more than rule of thumb estimates. We got this done in the dead of winter in 09 (in the south) and w/the recession, most seemed almost eager-unlike a few turds on here.

I got some great information from many of the guys here, esp Beenthere, Shophound, and Dash and there's more but I forgot. My exp, go w/as much technology and efficiency as you can possibly afford.

Be aware too, you're gonna be starting a long term relationship w/this person (service, maintenance,etc)
