Ice-maker in the fridge is not making ice. After a little investigating, I am pretty sure the solenoid is not opening to let water in.

Could someone explain the logic/control sytem of a residential ice-maker? I assume the solenoid is energized for 10 seconds or so, and then it dumps after 2-hours or so?

Not all that much to them really. If the solenoid has power and isn't letting water through, then either:

There's no water to the valve.
    The valve is shot.
There's a restriction in the system after the valve.

    Diagnostics are pretty straight forward.
