How should BP be punished for the worse ecological disaster in History
Personally, I think they could start with paying the salaries of all the gulf coast fishermen until such time as the fisherman can get back to fishing. After all they just put all those folks on permanent unemployment.
I think BP should pay them what they averaged over the last 5 years.
Otherwise a lot of these hard working folks will be on unemployment for the next 10 years. Make BP pay for that and not the tax payers.
I'm just throwing ideas out there.
I really don't know if you can punish a company enough for something like thisGOVERNMENT

They are going to be in lawsuit city .......... so I dont think the government needs to intervene and force them to pay anyone anything.
Let go of my cracker jacks, If you dont Im going to have to beat you....... now then hand my captain crunch back over to me this instant.....or else !!!

I suspect that they are being punished quite severely now. Loss of the platform, the 11 employees who were killed and the lawsuits to follow, the massive clean up which they are paying for now, the loss of oil revenue from the destroyed platform, possible loss of future drilling opportunities off shore, fines by the government, future draconian measures and restrictions by the government bureaucracy, etc. and on and on. Of course you could ask for the execution of the CEO like some Democrats may demand. Thank you very much

Heard something today indicating this was not the worst, I only heard the end of it but that something happened to a mexican shore line rig in the thirties that went on for way longer. I have not confirmed this.

I just heard about that today as well so i looked around and found there was a similar situation in the gulf of Mexico that spilled around 140 million gallons over a 10 month period before they were finally able to cap it. This spill is the worst in US history, the other spill was from a state owned oil rig from Mexico.
Seems odd to me that none of the older guys remember this incident.

I sure do and Mexico wouldn't allow the US or American oil companies help stop the leak. They were real macho and said that they would fix it and it was against there so called constitution for anyone else to stop it but themselves. Didn't want gringos help. Pissed me off at their arrogance. Thank you very much.

I would point out that they wouldn't be drilling in water that deep if the govt and all the al gores in the world hadn't cut off all there other more cost effective locations to drill in. There are plenty of other places they could drill if the know it all's would just get out of the way.

Nothing will happen. I will continue to pay $2.79 a gallon while they continue to hand out bonuses to their execs. Much in the same way that Bank Of America enjoyed a great big hug from the federal government while threatening my perfect credit score and hounding me by phone if my house payment is 45 seconds late.
Doesn't matter.....Obama or Bush....repub or dem....they all have their grimy fingers in the back pockets of hard working Americans while dishing out what amounts to "Monopoly" money to their fat cat budies.
Screw em!!!
