    I've seen thermometer wells in copper that look like a piece of 1/4" tubing brazed through and diagonally across a piece of 1 1/8" tubing, or similar in other sizes.

    The purpose was to stab a thermometer into the center of the gas flow without a hassle with the insulation, or the freon.

    Anyone know where I can find these?

    You are not talking about a petes tap are you? If so they are only used on fluids and not used on refrigerants.

    I think you're supposed to put something like mineral oil? in the hole, not just stab your thermometer into it?

    They were shipped with earlier Lennox units and used for testing. Lennox has abandoned this approach to testing the charge. Not sure if they are still available.
