Compressor relief to low side internally.
Refrigerant sytem pressure relief to ambient.
I have seen both in action, both make a bad sound and are unmistakeable after after hearing them once.

we had a liebert unit about 12 yrs ago with 3 low charge calls in a week. could not find the leak. finally i was there and the condenser fan cut off (bad motor) and there was a relief valve that opened and shot r22 for about a minute. only one i ever saw.

am very familiar with internal relief, i just was hopin' to start the cool quiz with a 3 this week!

At the last place I worked.....

I was just entering the machine room when the rupture disc let go and 2480 lbs of R11 came out of the centravac. I can't say as I stayed there for the whole show.
If every a...... could do this,I wouldn't have a job...

Good for you, I hear the final act can be a smothering experience. You could live without it.
