an open box of what? More info needed
My boss wants me to cool an open box. The temperature of the surroundings can reach to around 140 F. If anyone knows how to cool this down efficiently I would greatly appreciate your help.

The box has dimensions of about 8' X 4' X 3'. It has 12 cameras in it. It is completely enclosed except for the bottom of it which is open to the ground and set up about 1'
With an "open bottom" ?, not a chance.
Now if you could flip it over....
So ... this "box" is about the size of a coffin.
Is it horizontal in position?
What is the material of this box? Is the box about to be "tethered" to another place? In other words, can you run over a pair of vent tubes which would bring in cold air? If so, you could simply run an A/C unit and halve it be a total loss air discharge into the box.
Now... another issue. Is it possible to slow down our loss of air here from the box to the atmosphere?
Can we put a bottom into this box which would maybe have small holes in it? This would curtail our air loss tremendously.
Why is the bottom open?
What temp do you require inside this box? If cameras are mounted inside, I guess anything below 90 farenheight would be fine. So an a/c unit would do this job nicely.
Cold air falls...... discharge the cold air into the top thru difusers and bathe every part of the box with cold air. The allow it to be pushed out by incoming fresh air.
You really need top vents to allow the HOT air to rise and leave your box. Since hot air does not fall, the cold air will want to exit the box before it has absorbed all the heat fromt he box/ camers, etc, that it can. And the hot air will be trapped up at the top of your box.
Bummer.
This is just the opposite of what we want.
Add top vents, discharge cold air thru difusers evenly over all camera gear mounted inside of box and have all this cld air piped in thru a duct from an A/C unit operating as close to the box as is feasible. AND HAVE A BACK UP UNIT ON STANDBY!!!
You guys are being awfully generous with the giving of information to a person who seems to be too indolent to supply you with adequate design conditions.
....."indolent".....?
Whoa, Benny's been reading the dictionary in the bathroom instead of Sports Illustrated.
It is difficult to post a lot of design specs b/c of a confidentiallity agreement with the company I work for. Thank you for the help thus far. If you have any other ideas please let me know.

It's even more difficult to help design something for a black box full of secrets.
