At the beach anyway ... thought some of you landlocked guys would like to see what we deal with here at the big pond. keep in mind, all these are in the 3-6 year old range, what makes it worse is that they are installed underneath a building on stilts, so no rain just the daily salt bath from the seabreeze.

Nice. I've also seen a few condensers show their "Skeleton" that way after a dog has been pissing on them for months.

The salt eats all brand's coil? Even Trane?

Well the Trane coils dont separate like the copper/aluminum fin coils do, the salt collects at the bottom and eats through, or they leak at the copper/aluminum connection.

When we change these out we usually have to turn them over and carry upside down or the compressor will fall out

I'd try something automatic in operation that would flush out the coils....something that could be retrofitted, possibly a trap primer feeding a small drip irrigation tube laced to the top of the coils. Probably won't work, but thats my feeble little mind in action. But Hey!, If some of you Gents do take that idea and make a G-Zillion dollars, remember your old buddy whats his name.

Does the Heil win ? Was told that Scotch Guard can prolong coil life, is that true?

The Heil is less than 2 years old, pics dont show how bad the coil is, wont be long until it looks like the others.

Lightly clean and spray with Cold Galvanizing spray, (after thoroughly drying). Spray with fan running. Can over coat with black enamel. CRC HD corrosion inhibitors, (350 & 400), Never Sieze on bolts, shafts, service valves. Have used this technique for years. Haven't had equipment I serviced fall apart like yours shots. Funny to watch the old Goodmans outlast the ICP, Yorks and Carrier equipment. I worried that the louvered covered models that don't have the black coating won't last as well, (Goodmans).
