NATE certification

I just recently passed my nate test, i passed the core, and service heat pump,just wondering if any of you nate certified guys got raises for passing, and if so how much?
if the company is getting money for start ups and the customer is eligible for all kinds of rebates, shouldn't we be compensated?

Good for you, serviceboy, for accomplishing this daunting task. Your boss should be thrilled with you. I think a 40% raise would be in order, but that's conservative, because I'm a biased company owner who is stingy with pay.

Nope, you won't get a raise, its stuff you need to know anyway, if anything you will get more of the stuff nobody else can fix.

Passed it and no raise. Some companies do others don't If your company is going to use it to advertise for themselves and get bennefits and discounts from you then you should recieve some sort of bennifit.

Be proud of what you accomplished, some of us business owners look on nate as a verification that you learned the very, very basics of hvac in school. All the licenses in the world don't mean squat to a business owner, the customer satisfaction, productivety, lack of callbacks, ect. is more important. I however look closer at people who take the extra time and effort to improve themselves. The results are usually improvements in all of the above, which relates to more money.

Please explain Carriers recent proposal calling for 50% of tech's and 50% installers needing to pass for Authorized Dealer status. P.S. Most owners propably could not pass the test anyway.

Trane is doing something similar with their comfort specialist dealers as well. Companies only have so much time to start getting their guys certified and if you havve to get at least 2 techs a year cert if I am not mistaken. The NATE cert is a good thing IMO but I hired a guy who was cert about a month or so ago and he gave a way more work and screwed up so much stuff I was wondering if he got his card out of a cracker jack box. It is for technical aptitude though and not necessarily for being a good technician or a productive one. Just one little part of the big picture.

I doubt that.

I'm an owner and Nate certified and a C.M. and scored better than our techs.

1) Who paid for your test?
2) Are you the most qualified tech in your shop.
3) Do you deserve a raise. Aside from passing the NATE

only if you are making the company money, don't assume you're making them money.

Some Mfgs are putting on a dog & pony show over nate, but they still sell stuff to the general public more and more, go figger??

sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys. I'm in Boston, and we're supposed to get 3 straight days of 90+, i was pretty busy today, 14 hour day.
The company paid for the test, 4 of us took it, me and 1 other service guy passed the service heat pump, 2 of our installers failed the a/c install test.
I'm in my 8th year in the field, I get paid pretty well and can't really complain about much. as far as my original question about getting a raise, i was just curious. although with a kid on the way, my family plan insurance costs me $4 an hour, I could use that 40% raise Diceman, are you hiring? HAHAHA
