This air handler was actually installed in an upstairs bedroom. We are ripping out both systems. I will post "after" pics next week. -DF

Looks like the rats and mice put this system in. Just when
I thinks I've seen it all.
Whoa Maynard - that's not how it works.

    Flex duct

You guessed it - the rats got to the flex. The house sat vacant for a little over a year and the rats overran the place. The new owner is doing a good job remodeling the entire house in a very nice section of Washington, DC. -DF

The radiators are staying but the boiler will be replaced with a Burnham or Viessmann (ho has not decided). Basement system is a 13 SEER Carrier w/ var. spd A/H and sheet metal duct system (no flex). 2nd and 3rd floor system is Carrier 12 SEER C/U tied to Unico A/H and duct system. -DF

Ultra violet light will cause the gray jacket to become brittle and fail. That's what this one looks like happened. Doesn't need mice, rats, or the HO storing boxes on top of the flex duct - it just turns to dust.

Exactly! If sunlight (UV) gets to flex with grey vinyl bapor barrier it will crumble. I try to always use foil now.

Here are the "after" pics. We ripped out all of the flex and replaced it with hard pipe. The 2nd floor Unico system is not yet complete. I will post those pics when finished. -DF
