New one to me. What changing refrigerants wasn't enough for them ?
P.S.
Will it come one day all we can do is change equipment ?
One of our customers has recently restricted us from chemical coil cleaning. The EPA threatened them with a big fine if all drainage from coil cleaning is not "captured". Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone know of an EPA approved coil cleaner? Saying bio-degradable on the label isn't good enough.

We have a location we have been forced to use this -
http://www.nucalgon.com/green/index.htm
"Clean the condenser unit with an all natural environmentally friendly coil cleaner. This non-foaming, not-toxic cleaner is outstanding for removing dirt and grime which hinders heat transfer. By cleaning the fins with Cal-Green you restore the units efficiency while being environmentally responsible."
- Not sure if that is "green" enough to meet your customers requirements.
Maybe if you use a green gargen hose you can atleast say your "goin green."....I never heard of that before anywhere. What coil cleaner are you using?

I've heard of this in boulder co. And guess it will be the norm soon. I can't stand useing the pink cond coil cleaner that suff is bad for my health too.any acidic cleaner is bad for my health. We now just use straight ole pressurized h2o. This is best it pushes all the dirt out and gets the head psi down, even on large 410a rtus and I'm in phoenix with these roofs temp at 160. Your customer is doing you a favor
I remember one day I was cleaning a coil with NU-BRITE. I didnt realize the handle was leaking, it was squirting directly on my private area. By the time I realized......I didnt walk for a week. I literally got circumcised all over again. USE CAUTION........for your wifes sake!

Try this stuff out http://refrig.com/Product/Specialty_.../viper_HD.html
EPA approved and nsf approved for food service area's
I've used the aerosal can of Viper and this is the same thing just consenstated. It works pretty damn good and doesn't stink or burn your lungs and skin.
I'm getting some of the consentrated in to try out..
It's from the same company that makes nylog and big blue.
O ya and you ca use it on evap coils.
The Dupont, Atofina, Inious group has not allowed chemical cleaning (or even having the chemical on your truck while on thier property) for a number of years. Water only for cleaning! Rinse off as possible and if needed replace.
I'm good at making things cold...You can ask my first two wives!
We use this stuff here, it works pretty good and doesn't burn the hell out of you're skin. If condenser coils are really hogged up you normally have to do them a few times.

do what the EPA says. Then maybe the EPA will buy ur customer new compressor or condenser fan when they burn out.
check out NU-Calgon products they have a good selection of green products
The conclusion is use discretion and watch over your shoulder. "All run-off from cleaning air conditioning coils with or without detergents shall be captured before it enters a storm drain and removed with a wet/shop vac" - Yours Truly.
What do you do with it after you collect it in your shop vac?
I usually gauge how good the coil cleaner is by how much the mist is stinging my face. I guess those days are fading. oh well.
