    Trane compressor

I am having a problem with this unit compressor starting the fan runs and the compressor sounds as if it's trying to come on but it never dose with the gages hooked up . I checked both the run and start capacitor and they were good also check out the potential relay and it was good, Ohmed out the compressor and it checked good.I shut down the high and low side of the service valve and recovered the charge left in the lines and check the expansion valve for any partical that may have caused a blockage. I blew the lines out with nitrogen reconnected and pulled a vaccum. Then I applied power and the compressor started I charged the unit and it ran for a week an
now the same problem. Any one have a suggestion what the problem may be

    Thanks,

    trane compressor

yes u could probably put in a hard start and it would work, but i have a few questions first
    1. How much lift or drop between this a/h and condenser ?
    2. how long is the lineset ?

These are common factors in needing a factory reccomneded hard start on a trane. or any semi hermetic / small scroll compressor at install.

more issues have been seen with the semi hermetics but i have come accross hard starting scrolls

Thanks for the quick response, the lift is about 10 feet, the line set arround 20 to 25 feet and there is no TVX.

Your going to have to give more information to get help here. Also per site rules no diy advice is aloud. Not saying your a diyer but you need pro membership to get technical assistance.

Thanks, for taking the time to read the problem, I had a simular problems with solder blocking the metering device and the compressor would not start the capacitor was checked and the compressor was ohmed out and the voltage was good. The unit should work. however, the the metering device orfice was stopped up. once cleared the unit ran. I guess my question is WHY. These are problems you do not encounter in school.

Imagine a garden hose with water flowing thru it, solder blocking the orfice is like kinking the hose and stopping the flow of water. The compressor wants to pump but the valves in the compressor only allow the freon to flow 1 way and after flow stops at the orfice, like the kinked hose, the compressor shuts down until the pressure is relieved.

A restriction in the metering device won't stop the compressor from starting, your barking up the wrong tree. Get your post count up and apply for pro membership

While I agree that a plugged orfice won't keep a compressor from TRYING to start, once you have a column of liquid built up and pressurized to 500+ psi between the compressor and that restriction..... That compressor aint starting. BONK.........BONK....... Until the pressure is relieved.
