Yep, it's true. Rheem condensing unit, York AHU and a after market coil in it and the AHU cover has some extra holes in it covered with tape.
After the last two years of not using a filter I waited for the hottest day of the year to pull the coil and clean it. I then went outside and removed the cover off the Rheem unit and cleaned the coils, leveled the unit and got the leaves out. It is still a Heinz 57 but works great and I may even go buy a filter for it. There is no where to send the bill.
I had planned on running the system only for a year and then removing it and putting the equipment in the garage because I hate attic installs and removing the duct system completely then I had the similar experience HVAC 45 is having. The bill is dirt cheap anyway. So now the plan is doing it in fall

Glad I didn't have to work on it. You'd've gotten a piece of my mind

I know what you mean James, my boat is in a similar situation, I keep putting bandaids on it instead of just getting out and putting a good days work on it.

Maybe we should have the h-talk convention at your place James. We could all pitch in an install you a great system then go smoke cigars and swat mesquitos down by the lake.

Did my maint last Monday. The condensor fan went out so thought it was a good time to tear it apart. We've only lived in this house for a year so I was not ready for what I found.
The condensor is a 25 year old Whirlpool and the furnace is a 25 year old York. The condensor wasn't to bad even though the drier vents right by it. The evap had never been cleaned and you could tell witout a doubt since there was no access. After cutting the end open and removing the evap cover I was astonished to find it very clean. Thank you for people that believe in changing their filters.

Man I just don't get it. 9 differant co. working in this area and almost everyone of them at their own house have some old piece of crud pieced together something. One of my competitors and friend just put central air in his house 3 yrs ago and that was after 30 yrs in the biz... and of course it was some old thing he pulled from somewhere else. I must say it worked for him not to have it when a customer called his house late in the evening yelling "it's 80 in my house"
Dan would look over at his stat and say "ya well it's 80 in my house too, see you tomorrow."What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
