    OK, here do this.
Hook up blue hose A to unit, red hose B to recovery tank, green hose C to recovery unit, chartruse hose D to other ftg, Yellow hose D to other tank, and whatever else is left hook it all together. Turn it on and run.
Maybe you should have paid attention in class, oh wait, I forgot, you are too smart for that school.

    recovery

Take a look at the brand of unit you have and look on the web or ask at your local HVAC/R wholesaler for the company phone number. They also can put you in touch with the local manufacturers rep who can help you with booklet/diagram.

Some units can pump liquid, others vapor only. USUALLY you will hook up low and high sides to appropriate unit valves, middle hose to recovery machine, outlet hose of recovery machine to tank.

Other variables are: float switches (heaven forbid) push/ pull system (hopefully outdated by now)

In short...these machines use diffent techniques, so there will be no standard answers to this. You will have to find the company that made it in order to use the machine safely and correctly.

Remember one thing though: A bag of ice or a bucket of water is your friend when you are recovering refrigerant. Keep your tank cool and you will speeed up recovery (high heat = high pressure = slow recovery.)

most recovery machines are colored coded like your gauges. Blue means suction or low side on your gauges and is the inlet to the recovery machine. Red is the liquid or discharge pressure gauge - on the recovery machine (red)is the discharge to your recovery tank. You will use the three hoses from your manifold gauge set and need one additional hose to connect the recovery machine to the D.O.T. Recovery Cylinder/Tank. Make sure you dehydrate (vacuum)the recovery tank first and you don't mix refrigerants. Hook your blue hose to the service valve on the large copper tube and your red hose to the small copper tube. Open all valves and recover your refrigerant until you reach required level.
This task is not for beginners becuase you can damage the recovery machine or yourself. I guess your going to attempt to recover or blow the charge no matter what, so I figured I would give you some basics

Hey Dice, now I know why you got that 9mm. It may be time to upgrade to a Howitzer.

There are plenty of tips for recovering freon.

If I had access to ice, what I would do if I were you... I would keep a recovery cylinder ready to use and have a big like .. horse bucket feeder .. they look kinda like a large twenty gallon wash tub. I would get something I can lay in some ice, then a layer of salt and so forth. I would have my cylinder in the midst of this salt and ice.

With one hose attached, I would pull down a small residential system in no time.

Leave it on it's own whil you go and do other work.

This is recovery without having to use a machine.
Then to finish up, I might hook up the recovery pump for just the very last few ounces of refrigerant.

    If I felt so inclined.

But that ice with salt will lower your recovery tank temperature so low .... that freon will be walking all over itself just to get inside your tank.

Seriously, this works. And it's foolproof. And it does it's job without you having to stand there while it's working.
