Follow up . . .
. . . on Java Bob's "Free Speech. . ." thread.
Did a few minutes research on Westboro Baptist Church and Fred Phelps.
This so-called "church" claims to be Primitive Baptist, but according to Wikipedia, "The WBC is not affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations. The church describes itself as following Primitive Baptist and Calvinist principles, though mainstream Primitive Baptists reject the WBC and Phelps."
Phelps is a textbook example of a bigot and in 1979 was disbarred from practicing law. This resulted from perjuring himself in a trial (that he eventually lost) in which he sued a court reporter named Carolene Brady. Again, from Wikipedia, "The trial became an exhibition of a personal vendetta by Phelps against Carolene Brady. His examination was replete with repetition, badgering, innuendo, belligerence, irrelevant and immaterial matter, evidencing only a desire to hurt and destroy the defendant." In an appeal, Phelps produced "signed affidavits" from eight people supporting his claims against Brady. Brady then produced affidavits from the same eight people stating that they neither spoke with Phelps nor signed anything for him.
No doubt the members of this "church" call themselves Christians. I find that offensive. A true Christian has sympathy and respect for the family when someone dies, regardless of the cause of death. Sadly, too many people look at this clown and his followers as examples of Christianity. Anybody remember Jim Jones?
It's a mechanical device, designed by humans, built by humans and operated by humans. What could possibly go wrong?

He is nothing more than a misguided person who has studied the Bible and developed a personal theology.
He is a perfect example of why personal interpretation of the Bible will lead a person astray of Christ's teachings.

Scripture should interpret Scripture. The man is not led by the Spirit. He has personal agenda based on nothing Christian.

It would be nice if their bus crashes on their way to the next funeral, they plan to interrupt.

I disagree with anyone who "interprets" Scripture and other Scripture does not hold their interpretation to be accurate.
It ain't rocket science.
