this really bugs me!
how is it that in Ontario a guy, with no experience in the trade at all, I mean "0", can get his ODP card.
at least when I got mine in New Brunswick you had to be active in the trade, either working as an apprentice, or a journeyman (OOOPs person) or car mechanic.....
but here anyone can go write and get it

What is an ODP card? I heard in Canada it's not that hard to get anything.
-
ODP basically means, thanx for your money, doesnt mean you know anything.

You thihk thats bad, how about the servicemen from the former company Union Gas, getting their C of Q. Union gas negotiated a deal with the government wherby there employees were given credit for service on heating equipment, as time towards there apprenticeship. The employees sat in classrooms and were taught how to pass the exam by a company that specializes in this, none of them knowing diddly about refrigeration. They challenged the exam and the rest is history. I heard some heads at UG did roll when they tried to get some meter readers into the program.

I heard those UG guys also got full pay to sit in those classes.

O.K, what is that?

Certificate of Qualification. It allows you to work in the trade after successful writing of the exam, 9000 hours of apprenticeship and 3 terms of schooling which basically lasted 8 weeks per. Of course the UG guys got paid to sit in a classroom, learn the answers to the exam and then write the exam. Now these guys are deemed to be qualified. Am waiting to see if one leaves UG and tries to join local 787, the fireworks will start then.

I got a CM one time, but I got P.O.'d at RSES, so I stopped paying dues.
