Maybe the water did not rise but the island sunk.

There is an island just 20 miles from here that is disappearing. It's called Hunting Island. When I was a kid, the lighthouse was about a mile from the beach. Today, it's about 100 yards from the beach. It's called EROSION!! SHEESH!!

The ocean levels have not changed here since I was a kid.

When the water is high enough to wash the island away, it is pretty much erosion. Could this be what the scientists are warning about?

Dunno. We've got a 7 foot swing in tides here. There's a 50 foot swing somewhere in the NE corner of the continent. I recommend you don't go there. You'll panic twice a day.

    Exactly.

Also do not confuse sand with rock or innundation due to rising waters and beach erosion due to storms and tide action.

I didn't. The island itself is literally moving south. Beach in HI disappearing. Sand bars building up just off next island south...Fripp Island.

That is a barrier island (sand bar) and very vulnerable to erosion. A volcanic island certainly can't erode away in any of our lifetimes.
