    Guages

Replace mine twice a year. Used set for spare. Check valves one on set and not on others. 5' yellow jacket hoses and guages. They need to be on 0 when you start or add or subtract. Nice to have flutterless guages now so you don't have to kink the hose.
Be safe not fast. body parts don't grow back

    I occasionally...

...put my fluke heat clamp on a line next to a schrader fitting where may gage is attached and look at a P/T chart and check that against what my gage reads...my Fluke is pretty trustworthy

The Yellow Jacket gauges with the brass cases are rated for 1% accuracy, and I have a half-dozen sets of them.

I only use JB gauges and manifolds for two purposes:
    • Double Low pressure
      • Net oil pressure. (Double low sides on one manifold.) I carry 4 sets of these at all times.
      • Suction core pressure drop.
    • Double high pressure.
      • Liquid line filter pressure drop.
      • Holdback valve differential.
      • Defrost differential valves.
      • Any other high side app where I need to measure differential.

I carry around 2 dozen sets all the time.

STOP Dave .... your breaking my heart!!! You mean to tell me I need to buy a couple of DOZEN sets of gages???

    IYEEEEEEEE!!!

I thought I was rich with having three sets around!
Now it appears in market circles .. I am but a pauper!

    Cool

I have four sets of gauges and the way I check my gauges is I got a Trojan tee coupler that I can attach two or three set at once and if they all read the same I know the gauges are pretty accurate. If they are not then I either calibrate them or trash them but one thing I do every year is buy a new set of 72 in hoses.

I still have one set of gages and they are accurate enough. I been thinking about purchasing another. What about the CPS brand gage? I like it. Does anyone recommended or not recommend it?
    Thanks.

I would not want to keep you waiting Dice.

Besides normal manifold sets, a market man should at least have one dual high gauge set. It sure helps when checking your defrost differential.

As Dave has already mentioned a dual low and a dual high are a good idea.

I keep a hose with a depressor on my low side only. My common and high have none.

But my high side does have a CA1 manual depressing valve. This helps on smaller systems. I just back off the depressor and pump all the liquid into the suction side.

Plus I just don't like frozen fingers.

I'm gonna spring for the digital set soon.

I'll order them thru WalMart so if I dont like em, I can take em back and get my money back.

(24 sets of gages .... sheesh!)

    Calibrate Gauges

The best way to calibrate gauges is to hook to a drum of r-22 (or whatever you have handy) that has been stored in a controlled ambient temperature for several hours. then calibrate gaug to pressure -temperature chart. this will never lie as long as you use virgin refrigerant.
