I wouldn't recommend putting an "old" compressor of any variety in, much less one that was designed for a 40 degree evap.

I bought some mp39 for a Ice machine that cost just about twice what I could have paid for a brand new window unit (an used the compressor out of) and would have at least a fan motor left over I could have sold by now.

Unless it's some oddball, completely out of production unit, the right parts are available for essentially all of them.

Who wants to put $1300 into a old r-12 anything. If the customer is using outdated equipment it is probly not because he wants to.

Someone else might come along and buy him out, seeing as how his financial condition is so fragile, and get stuck with one of your POS nightmares, and wind up having to buy a new machine because no one can figure out why it won't work right.

You don't know, because it is 30 degrees out of their operating envelope. But, that doesn't matter to YOU, because it's cheap, and what could POSSIBLY go wrong with it??????????
