Re: R-22
I wouldn't recommend putting an "old" compressor of any variety in, much less one that was designed for a 40 degree evap.Originally posted by bzzline
If you are going to change the txv might as well change it to r-22 the freon works well in ice machines and you can probly find a old a/c compressor cheaper than getting freon that you will not ever use.

old ice
I bought some mp39 for a Ice machine that cost just about twice what I could have paid for a brand new window unit (an used the compressor out of) and would have at least a fan motor left over I could have sold by now.

If you're selling these Frankenstein monsters, you're ripping off whoever buys one.Originally posted by bzzline

Its just a option
When you cannot go back with OEM just as well leave it alone.

Why couldn't you go back with OEM???
Unless it's some oddball, completely out of production unit, the right parts are available for essentially all of them.

options under $200
Who wants to put $1300 into a old r-12 anything. If the customer is using outdated equipment it is probly not because he wants to.

That's the oldest hack excuse in the hack manual.
If the guy can't afford to do business, so what?
Someone else might come along and buy him out, seeing as how his financial condition is so fragile, and get stuck with one of your POS nightmares, and wind up having to buy a new machine because no one can figure out why it won't work right.
How many btuh are these window unit rotaries rated at at a zero degree evap, anyway???? I know, you don't know.
You don't know, because it is 30 degrees out of their operating envelope. But, that doesn't matter to YOU, because it's cheap, and what could POSSIBLY go wrong with it??????????
How long is your warranty on something like this, BTW?
If you're gonna Do something like that, you oughtta spray paint your name and number on the front of it, so know one else winds up in a living nightmare.
