Thread: Trane Summit System access?
-

I had a customer today that had a problem with the setpoint on a Trane Voyager unit.(Constant temp-just too cold) The AC package unit is hooked up to a Trane Summit system. The customer is new to the building and knows little about the Trane Summit system, unfortunately niether do I. Checked the AC unit and it runs perfect.
I use hyperterminal to link with Trane Vari-track VAV systems all the time, no problem there and UPCM's I getting pretty good at. Could not find any good information on the net about hooking up to the Summit. I know you need the software package to access all the features but I also heard you can access it with hyperterminal. Tried it just to see but it didn't work. (maybe Telnet?) The Summit system is attached to a Siemens Apogee system. Do I need to disconnect the Apogee system while access the Summit system?
Any step by step instructions on being able to access the Trane Summit system just to check or change a setpoint or see what's on the system would be a great help. I have encounted a roadblock and it needs to be cleared. If anyone has an old copy of the software that I could practice on would also be great. Not trying to steal software, I just like to experiment and learn in my spare time.
Thanks
Zandman

If its on Summit system, as far as I know you will need Tracer Summit sofware to connect to it. If he has Summit, is there a reason why he can't look at this unit through his work station, or does he just have a BCU/PCM on the wall?

Why are you tring to call system up. If you were there to check RTU out you should have used BAS on sight
As far as software you will have to buy it and then register copy on line with Auth Code before it will work.
As far as your road block, I think its more like a dead end but then again this is not anything that money cant take care of.

Trane Summit
The customer is new to the building and does not have a front end, just the Summit module on the wall. Either it was never fully implimented or the old customer did something with it. I just want to make sure there is absolutely no way I can acccess it, just to check setpoint or temps, before I tell the customer. Most of the Trane software can as least be accessed through Hyperterminal to some degree, why not Summit module?
Thganks for the replies,
Zandman

If you have an early version of summit, you can get software for this. When it was still a dos program you will need OS2 for this, I would talk to BO and see if they would be interested in an up grade at that point install a PC work station with new software.
Good luck

In order to "Talk" to a BCU you need to have Tracer Summit software, no other program will work. You also need a version that is equal to or greater than the image that is in the BCU.

if its version 12 or earlier, you can usually find software from some source. while its supposed to be registered, there are many users out there unregistered. if you leave it on more than a day, it will lock up, but less than a day, you can use a trial version. thats what a lot of techies out there are doing.

Version 12 and earlier had to be registered or it will automaticly shut down after 10hrs then you must relaunch the program, no big deal.
Version 13 and later MUST be registered with in 30 days or it will lock up and not be usable untill it is registered.
If you change the date or time on your CPU while unregestered it will also lock up. After the software is registered it will work only on that CPU, you can not remove and reload the software as a work around!!
You can not use the same disk on multipel CPUs'.

You can get around Summit if you connect directly to the link with Rover, thats if you have Rover. If the system is Bacnet to someone else,s system, then you need to go through that system, or you need Summit software to gain access via laptop. Good Luck
