    1) no

    2) yes but gives false legitimacy to newbies that have a enough knowledge to be dangerous yet no practical experience.

My 2 cents: It is better than nothing.

No matter what we may think about the cost, it is at least some sort of standard for the industry.

    vote twice?

If you want to know what a bone is check out the donkey show thread.

I would like to change my vote to No and No. There needs to be some sort of regulation but the questions on the test I took sucked and I wrote to the test writers that as well. I gave examples of what they should do to improve and not try to confuse the test taker. Only bennefit I get from it other than an expensive book and some required re-education every now and then is a patch and a piece of paper to hang on a wall. Company I work for gets to advertise about me. Yea me. :\ I am proud of being nationally recgnized but think there has to be a better way. The general manager and I are going to work on getting RSES back into our neck of the woods and getting those certs going in our area as well. I have a higher opinion on those test than I do the NATE. Heck the ICE test were better writtne than the NATE test. At least the ICE exams were easy to understand.

Well you said we couldn't have a discusion so that is my one word answer!

I think the government should not make NATE manitory. But should require it on government funded jobs. "Technicians performing this work will be certified by NATE."

This will weed out some contractors. And the government would be throwing a "bone" to any legitimate guys who will take the initiative to take the test. If you don't want to bid government work, don't take the test. It is kind of like affirmative action for people who knows what they are doing!!

Wouldn't that be a breathe of fresh air!
