    must have been cold

Got a call from a friend of a friend who said that the breaker for his heat pump would trip about once a week. When I got there I took the cover off of the unit and checked compressor and fan motor with meter. Compressor showed open winding while checking from contactor. Took cover off of compressor terminals and saw this. The picture isn't great as it was taken with a cameraphone, but it is a piece of 3/8 copper tubing that was crimped onto a terminal on compressor with the wire crimped into it. The wire had burned off. Guy said that he had one of his fire department buddies fix the unit a couple of years ago because he knew what he was doing. Guess his buddy wanted to come back on a real "fire" call.

I have seen similar quick fixes. It is scary what some people will do to make a unit run. I guess this is a sooner fan also. He wanted to kill the unit sooner.
