only way to tell if properly sized is with a load calculation, was one done?
as far as set up check the little window on the blower door and post what letters and #s you see while heater is running.
I have recently purchased a new g71mpp 70,000 btu furnace. my question is i have a 1300sqft main level home and want to know if the furnace is sized right and what are some thing that should be checked to make sure it is set up and installed properly.

70,000 for 1300 sq ft . Your in a real cold climate. Glad we don't have those -30°F temps here.
Or got lots of windows, or no insulation.
A load calc before you bought the furnace would have been better.
The more info you provide here, the more accurate reponse you'll get back.
Just from rule of thumb, it doesn't sound like you're grossly oversized, but depending on your climate, and many other factors, you probably are oversized. When I say grossly oversized, I'm talking about 100,000 btu units in 1000 sq. ft. homes. Pretty common around here.

it may not be sized correctly but I believe that is the smallest size available for the G71 furnace. It is supposed to be a true modulating furnace. What stat are you using?
