    Expo

I Checked out the expo today. Overall I was impressed, although many of the vendors seemed tired or busy with a palm pilot. Side note, wear your walking shoes!

    AHR Expo 2010

Day two of the 2010 AHR Expo didn't disappoint as attendees filled the halls of the Orange County Convention center searching for solutions to their everyday business needs.

A few highlights from todays show included an announcement from ClimateTalk Alliance. The ClimateTalk™ Alliance announced its newest members. Key industry leaders joining the ClimateTalk Alliance include 3 Notch Industrial Communications, Aprilaire, Arzel Zoning Technology, Control Solutions, Inc. Minnesota, ecobee, Everex Communications, In2 Networks, Jetlun, Lynxspring, Nogginhaus, Tendril, Varidigm and ZoneFirst. These industry leaders will join the current lineup of ClimateTalk Alliance members to drive the future of ClimateTalk, an open standards communication framework that enables simple connectivity among diverse HVAC and Smart Energy devices, leveraging existing industry standards for seamless information integration.

“The ClimateTalk Alliance is well underway and we’re seeing consistent growth and increasing support throughout the industry,” said Craig Johnson, Chairman, ClimateTalk Alliance. “We are looking forward to taking these developments to the next level and continuing to demonstrate the benefits that an open protocol like ClimateTalk can bring to the industry.”

With this continued growth, the alliance is now even better equipped to further develop the ClimateTalk Communication Infrastructure, addressing key industry needs. A top priority will be the formation of a Zoning Working Group to develop the next application in the ClimateTalk Communication Infrastructure. Along with existing member, EWC Controls, new members Aprilaire, Arzel Zoning Technology and ZoneFirst intend to team up to get this working group underway.

“We are truly excited to be part of this important, industry-leading organization,” said Mike Reilly, Vice President, EWC Controls. “Open standards benefit the many facets of the HVAC industry, including zoning and IAQ equipment manufacturers, by allowing for development of interoperable equipment. But, the ClimateTalk communication approach takes this one step further and also provides opportunities for customization and differentiation in the various applications; a benefit that is invaluable.”

Another highlight was a very "cool" invention from LA-CO. LA-CO introduced its Cool Gel® Heat Barrier Spray. The Heat Barrier Spray is an easy solution to ensuring the maximum performance in all three areas when working with an open flame is by keeping LA-CO Cool Gel® Heat Barrier Spray on hand. A clear, non-toxic and non-staining gel, Cool Gel helps to protect rubber, plastic, distortion, painted and finished surfaces during soldering, brazing or welding by acting as a barrier between the surfaces being working upon and the heat from a torch. The spray was an AHR Expo Innovation Award winner this year.

Just returned home from the AHR show. I attended a few interesting classes on HC refrigerants (was given some great ice cream also). The class on the air filters was informative.

I also stopped by the Cool Gel booth yesterday. Great product. Heather said she'd send me a sample. The attendance seemed busier today. I think it takes a day to "case" the place and a day to investigate the products.
