Maybe it's a mislabeled muffler.
Lets play Try to figure out what this (Tech) was thinking. This compressor was installed about 4 years ago after the original suffered a burnout. Suprise, it happened again.
It is a heat pump so was he thinking that the compresor reverses pump direction or maybe the small hot line is the suction line? I know, the reversing valve and the condenser must be located inside the compressor so the liquid line filter is in the correct place. Yah, thats it.
Anyone out there have any guesses?
Happiness is a bloodtrail in the snow. If it's beer can cold your too old.
Maybe it's a mislabeled muffler.
crappy ass sporlan driers
give'em credit, looks like it's pointed in the right direction
It`s better to be silent and thought the fool; than speak and remove all doubt.
If I was grading him I would give him an F+. The + is for at least putting a drier in.
haha nice drier..is that an old carrier unit?
I have seen Lots of driers on discharge line from the factory, but not biflow!!!
If you really know how it works, you have an execellent chance of fixin' er up!
Tomorrow is promised to no one...
thats a liquid line drier though i believe. dont see anything but hot gas at that location
that drier may have blown apart internally and took out the compressor. Was there originally a muffler in there?
Doug
York did some units w/ f/ds in discharge line. they were still one way, though
Col 3:23
questions asked, answers received, ignorance abated
Colman also put driers in the dicharge line, I thought that was a very poor location for the drier, their tech rep here locally said as long as the drier was " solid core" ie. sporlan it was ok. over the years I have seen a few mufflers replaced with driers though!! I hope you were able to sell a new piece of equipment to that customer, it was time for that unit to go to the bone yard!!!
Driers are placed on the discharge line of scroll compressors to protect the reversing valve from fine shavings.
I like the dripping candle wax effect he achieved with the solder.
I'm sure it helped tremendously that the drier was one size smaller on the tubing diameter...
