according to Honeywell: "No one else in the industry offers a programmable controller that can be programmed on ANY AX front end!"
For an extra 20% that is.
freddy-b, any thoughts on your favorite controller?
Ya, and I am hung like a porn star.

Thats BS. There are several companies that can. Honeywell is just one that tries to make an open system proprietary unless you want to give them extra.

I personally don't like its crappy user interface anyways. One has to frequently change between views to finish simple tasks. One has no easy way to figure out software points that are not used. One cannot officially copy custom NV from one controller to another. One cannot use the name of the software point on wiresheet. One cannot copy logics with their connections to structured NV from one controller to another ...
I agree. I was hoping for a little more bashing, you guys are too shy.
I don't have much of a say, I take the lemons and just hope for lemonade.
In a perfect world, the VENOM tool would produce configurable apps - Give me a unit with points a,b,c,x,y,z, staged cooling and heating, scratch that, make it modulating heating and cooling, thrown in static control, etc.
It's pretty funny that a spyder pre silk couldn't handle an "XL10 like" program because of limited resources. The end result were apps missing features as basic as nviEmerg or nvoBypassTimer
If the goal is to eventually replace the XL10s, they need to offer spyders with pre-canned apps that can be configured - be it via LNS plug-in or AX wizard.
Just to be fair.
John, Lou and their VENOM package are value plus to Spyder. It would have been worse without them. Sylk is a good one. Controller hardware is OK.
A wizard tool is under developing, which can be manually put on top of programs and provide simpler configuration pages instead of wire sheet/NV configuration view. This means John and Lou can use this, with their extra effort, to have configurable apps in VENOM.
I know there are some efforts to make pre-canned apps and LNS plug-in on top of Spyder, but not by those who own Sypder and "do no research". So its availability to dealer channel is unknown.
However, despite of good things above, the foundation of them, Spyder software programming environment simply sucks and is the weakest link of all Spyder technologies IMO. Too much human efforts are required to overcome things not considered and covered in programming environment. I suffered it so much that I dig deeper to see how they are modeled and if I can improve it in Niagara framework. And I found chaos.
Beautiful things on sands are mirages. It's only consolable, not joyful, to see mirages in desert. And sand storms blow me away well before consolations.
I didn't mean to bash the creators of the VENOM tool. I've learned a lot from the programs Lou and John created. If anything, those guys are the experts at making lemonade, and I appreciate all they do. It was unfortunate that they were restricted by the resources of the Spyder I, and I do hope the latest version will address those issues.
I just think that if an XL10 can do the job, why go with a spyder? Didn't someone else here mention controller price has always been a moot point?
