I agree, I am anxious to hear how this comes out.

In actual practice the load is non-linear because it is actually switched by the diodes. Since the load is non-Linear, it alters the sine wave. Harmonics are created and the power factor can be lowered. The problem is increased when a capacitor, or other method is added on the output of the bridge rectifier (full wave) to smooth the voltage output because if you smooth the voltage you amplify the amperage variations. Here is a link which you might find interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_factor
One aspect that I had not considered was the time period where the positive or negative diode pair were being forward-biased before the diodes begin to conduct. No doubt this it the reason for the harmonics and the non-linear nature of rectification. I imagine this was not much of a problem before the home computer revolution and the growth of fluorescent lighting.

I found it interesting that the EU is requiring power factor correction. If a device can present a load that appears to be resistive, that is a good step for efficient power use.

wow, the thread is still going strong. All I am saying and I don't know call me simple, is that when he wired up the 2nd or 3rd motor, I lost count, straight from out of the box with nothing on it. Fired it up, it was drawing higher amps than Full Load Amps.

    Something is wrong.

And it has nothing to do with fan curves, static pressure, delta t's, humidity, heat, racism, sexuality, sexual orientation, drugs, world social order etc ect ect ect.

i think your underestimating the possibility that drugs may be involved with this particular problem

    1: I need soem drugs...
2: I really look at a motor diferently now......
3: I will NEVER bench test a motro I am not ready to pay fer.....
4: ALL fans are not created equall......
5: I will never have a motro driven pool cover, heck I'll never have a pool .........
6: Avita (the movie) is the best thiing thats touched my life .........
7: I "WILL" always ask my dumb questions here, (ya knwo the kind every one says its better to ask then keep it inside .........
8: Alls fair in love and troubleshooting ................

Finaly, this: we ALL are sittin here wondering what the problen is, this one post stired so many to the edge of thier seats, and yet today we still sit, poised for any information as to the resulve of the fan motor (s) from hell.

I am a humble man, and have learned over my years to sit and ponder, I LOVE to ponder, boss comes into the mach. room me sitin lookin at a down unit and he ask, whats ya doin, I say I'm ponderin.......... Ponderin goes a long ways.....

I'm sure this situatuation will get resolved, more then likly not by me, and yet I know it WILL get resolved....... The unit ran before, it will run again. All I ask is who ever gets the thiing to run again, PLEASE you MUST return here and allow us the peace of mind to sleep again........ fro this one will go into the books for sure.....

In a sea of technicians (and technician accessories, ie: managers and dispatchers and what not), I think Mongo and me has the right attitude. Can't take it all so seriously

Since we're being silly- who the hell here has ever heard of "non-sinusoidal"? Sound like a medical drug description of side-effects.
