Just got a new job has a hvac tech at a resort in Death Valley National Park. Does't pay much, but they provide free housing, meals, utilities, and use to all the facilities for free.( It's a good thing they do, nearest town is 70 miles away.) I plan to stay a year and see how it go's. Has anyone been there. What do you think about the job situation. I'm looking forward to it, It sounds like an adventure. Lot's to explore, and see there. What do you think. I leave in 2 weeks.

When I was there it was full of German tourists.
I liked Death Valley. Its a trip.
Lots of abandoned gold mines in the hills.
Zabriski point was beautiful.
I fixed a guys car out in the middle of Death Valley once
and he just rode off like it was nothing.
I like the desert. Panamint Valley and Lone Pine are
great. Don't camp in a "draw" or dry gulch they can fill
with water if it rains in the mountains.
Great rocks.
I knew a guy who pointed out where alien spaceships
routinely landed but thats another story.
Good Luck.

I was stationed for 2 years at an air force base in the Mojave desert. Hated it when I first got there, but it grows on you. Advice.... before removing access panels from equipment smack it with a screwdriver a few times or kick it lightly...sidewinder rattlers like to get out of the sun and hide in equipment. My coworkers didn't tell me and I had change my underwear. I think you'll grow to like it. A guy I was stationed with was from Maine and he stayed there after he got out of the A.F. and opened his own HVAC business.

Ok now you need to understand there is no real fishing there, and the Reno races are a long ways away, but since you like to travel that might work I have a company not to far from there. I did one call in death valley. It gets unreal hot there in the summer, There is a great greek resturant in baker, and Purump has 2 good size casinos. The golf course there is the lowest elevation golf course in the country Most of the people you will meet there will keep you there. Give me a call if you get lost

Hey, if the job works out maybe you could host the second annual H-talk convention out there. See if you can get us a deal for the whole resort.

Yeah, is it near Vegas? Anyway, next 3 years are already booked, Pitt, Baltimore, Vt. after that, it's like fighting over hosting the olympics except on a slightly smaller scale.

Jeez, that was 30 years ago. we were at George AFB in Victorville. His name was McClelland, may be retired by now. I got out of the A.F. about 2 years before he did and left the area....Passed through 6 years later taking the kids to Disneyland and heard about him opening a business there. Don't know the name of it. Realize it's down the road a ways, but still in the Mojave...took care of HVAC/R at Cuddeback Dry lake bombing range too. I know all that is closed now.Originally posted by Roncool
