Zone Control Panel Shot - What if I'm planning on buying a new AC Unit?

I have a RobertShaw Slimzone Premier Zone Control System. My main module locked up after a recent power outtage. I am planning to have zone control panel replaced but I wonder if it will be compatible with the new AC I was planning to purchase next year.

I have a Bryant Unit w/the SZP-3 zone control panel and and an expander module w/6zones total. I'm planning to buy a Trane next year. I believe that the zone controller system and the AC are independent and therefore interchangeable but wanted to hear from the field before I do this. I'd hate to pay several hundred bucks now and then throw it away.

    Thanks for any advice.

The zone-control should work with any A/C unit.
