    Lennox Strategos

    To dark for crane pictures, also to busy setting them to take photos. We started at 3am in the morning and finished setting all the Stratego systems by 5am. Here are a few pics. More to follow. These are just from my cell..the others are from a digital cam that I am waiting on.

    All done up with harnesses, hard hats, steel toes, and orange vests..everything to keep OSHA and the rest of the on-site inspectors and safety supervisors happy...also 25 million dollars, minimum liability insurance coverage to even step foot on this job-site. It was a bit hectic to keep up with all the questions, forms, and getting the final Okay to start lifting. Not to mention all the crap and insurance coverage our poor crane guy had to come up with!
    We are the only non-union contractor for this and the other jobs for this company. We have the easy job of just supplying the equipment and initial start-ups. The big boys are in-charge of electrical connections, all the duct work, gas connections, and balancing.
    I just walked into the front offices one day and asked to have an opportunity to submit a bid. Here we are a few months later with a contract to supply Stratego systems for this and all the future jobs. This is proof that even us small guys during this recession can take the initiative to find good paying work. Miracles do happen...so happy about landing this job that i wanted to share. Whether union, non-union, big company, or a one-man-band, there is plenty of work still out there if you just sell yourself right.
    And NO this is not a Walmart...just a large commercial builder who is looking for as many LEED points as possible with all their jobs. If you didn't know the Lennox Strategos was designed originally for Walmarts and was designed with gaining as many LEED points one can get with a RTU unit. Currently, no other manufacture can come close, but I hope they will try.

    Lennox makes the best rooftop units in the market they're in. I'd be proud of that job, too. Congrats on your success.

    This snow stuff is cold and usually wet. it is white and tends to accumulate on bridges, lawns, and cold vehicles first. The mere sight of snow falling seems to make bad drivers worse, and accumulating snow turns idiot drivers into field art and creates lots of laughs for the good drivers passing by the newly created field art.

    Despite its looks, it is better to drive on than ice, as snow has more traction. In either case, it is best navigated with 4WD or FWD or if you're really lucky, a

    These are the first of mine to install or even put my hands on. They utilize the same logic controls as the older L-series with the IMC board and the add- on's. Same set-up procedures as any other unit on the market. System arrives from the factory pretty much ready to run.
    Simply set the fan to ON get my statics and my laser tachometer and do some pulley tweaking to get my cfm's as close to mfg & engineering specs as possible.
    The dual enthalpy economizer is basically factory set and calibrated, used my laptop and the L-connection software to make some fine-tune adjustments to that.
    Did have to field install the CO2 sensor in the return and do some altitude zeroing and adjustments on that.
    All in all, I am very impressed with the equipment. The efficiency ratings are nuts.
    Apples for apples after the months of research I did, I found the following efficiency ratings..this is for a ten ton unit.
    Lennox Stratego = 12.3 EER
    Carrier Centurion = 12.0 EER
    York Predator = 11.5 EER
    Trane Precident = 10.6 EER

    Now one may say that the EER ratings are not that far off from each other, but compare the three ton units, and this is the seller.
    Lennox Stratego = 14.3 EER
    Carrier Centurion = 11.4 EER
    York Predator = 11.0 EER
    Trane Precident = 11.2 EER

    Now I have put together all the spec's for those listed above, plus Goodman, Bryant, Day&Night, Ruud, Rheem, and Aaon and taking in other specifications such as economizer operation, heat packages (low,standard, and high), variable speed blower, logic controls, and every other option under the sun...the Lennox Stratego comes out miles ahead of the competition. You may think since this is the Ferrari amongst the Cadillacs, that you'd be paying a ton more, but this was surprisingly not true. It was the more expensive than the group for obvious reasons, but was within fifteen hundred bucks of the closest competitor.
    The lead time from the day your order one to when it shows up on your front porch is about a month. Lennox is currently building them as the order arrives, they are not stocking them at all. Must plan far ahead if you choose to utilize one on a job.


    Faster one can set a unit with very minimal set-up time, the more money is saved and made.

    I have had the software for a few years, used it a lot for tweaking and commissioning L-series units. The only hiccup I had originally was that the ComLink Adaptor for a laptop to the unit it's self uses the ancient port terminal, which I don't know of many laptops that still have old ports. Had to go to Radio Shack to get a 20pin port to USB adaptor and install a drive, once that was completed I have never had any problems. You will need to purchase the software and ComLink Adaptor through Lennox, it is a bit pricey, but once you have it your set.
    Communication is a breeze and my thirteen year old daughter can jump in and make adjustments.
    If your working on a particular RTU that is connected to multiple units, controls, and zone sensors all you have to do is plug into one to communicate with everything. Makes it nice to track down faults and problems.
    I like to be alone with my laptop than setting at a maintenance supervisor's desk playing on his PC. For some reason I work best when I don't have someone looking over my shoulder.
    Lennox on their commercial site has an emulator program you can download that simulates a very large connected system, you can go through and check faults, adjust economizers, an get a feel for the real thing before you ever connect to a the real deal.

    You will need to register to access this and other commercial benefits like engineering manuals and a ton of other items, but unlike most manufactures YOU DO NOT NEED A LENNOX ACCOUNT, just simply register and enjoy the benefits of having an arsenal of info for Lennox RTU's and other commercial items, when you need it one day.

    I am not a giant fan of this unit. the building I have with them on is a large retail space with a lot of lighting load. The problem appears to be in the way the IMC 8 board decides to stage on cooling and fan speeds.... It was sold to us as a "single zone vav" application but it does not appear to control to a discharge air temp. the problem is the unit often discharges between 58-60 degree air and provides almost no latent cooling. Anyone have any ideas?

    Check the ECTO parameters. Sounds like someone goobered things in the past. I would definitely set down on a pail on the roof plug in the laptop and go through and make sure all those parameters are set-up to personalize this unit for the job it is intending to do. As for discharge temperature or return air temperature settings, there is a parameter in the ECTO to set-up unit for means of control. May be set-up to look for a thermostat, a zone sensor, RA sensor, etc. Need to verify that this is set-up properly, in many cases if it is set-up to look for a particular control scenario and it doesn't see it, it will default to a very SAFE operating sequence.
    You may or may not have it, your questions deems that you do not, but the L-Connection software is free from Lennox's Commercial website, will need the adapter from Lennox to plug your laptop into the board. But once there it is a million times better than pushing buttons on the IMC for hours on end. Especially if you have multiple units. In the case of multiple units, and they are not attached to any form of BAC..then I will string temporary t-stat wire to daisy chain them all and can just set down on that pail and work on all of them from a single spot, if in winter, can drop t-stat wire roll down side of building near truck and set in truck and work away.
    The company I worked for prior had about 100 of these units for certain retail accounts. This post is sooooo old I do not see many Strategos anymore...everything is now the Energence equipment with the company I am with now. Even though the old IMC is now the newer Prodigy controls, still just the same.
