Aaon coil leaks

AAON has terrible quality control.Over the years I've seen many brand new units show up with no gas in them. But all the inspection tags are filled out as passing.One of the best ones was none of the tubes at the distributer were brazed at the factory,but is passed the quality control run test.

just did a startup on a 10 ton inspection tags filled out, i go to start it and find bad mod gas board and gas valve.now how was this test ran.

I thought it was just me and my experience with Aaon. I service/PM a large casino with 17 Aaons all within 3 years old. So far in the year and a half weve been there, there has been 4 leaks all in the condenser bend sleeves. Real pain. One repair is still pending as its in the very bottom pass and there is litterally no way to get at it without taking the whole exhaust and econ hoods off or cut/grind that panel down the middle so that one could get that side off to allow access which would look terrible. Im kind of a rookie yet. Have Aaons always been this way? I know of some buildings that we take care of that have Aaons that are quite old and still kicking. It seems that this bend sleeve leak problem seems to be quite common on fairly newer units 3-4 years old. Interesting.

I would go out of my way to tell a customer not to purchase one. They should hire skilled labor to put them together.

I fired off a 10 ton about 2 years ago. The condenser fan bracket was broken probably from the trucker going off jumps I guess, and the wires for the powered exhaust were pinched and hanging outside the cabnet. They were totally obvious. Then within a year the condenser had a leak.

Condenser coils,evap coils,txvs,compressors,contactors,phase monitors,etc...

We did warranty work for a distributor here and Aaon crap kept us plenty busy all over the state.They had a bad run of GE contactors for awhile that kept us busy as hell changing compressors,and their condenser coils are total crap.

Don't miss Aaon at all.

Use Standard RTV to stabilize where you cut out the tube sheet and repaired copper. Do not use Hi-temp or engine gasket RTV, if you get another leak the oil will deteriorate the Standard RTV and make it easier to make a future repair.



Working for a McQuay rep we had condensers with vertical slab coils, blow thru, with Discus compressor, on air entering side, they were fix and repair daily.

Please excuse my ignorance- Madhat what do you mean my "stabalizing with RTV" do you mean filling in the gap in the sheet metal that was (painfully and tediously) cut out with silicone. Ive repaired a few bend sleeve leaks and didnt know you should do that. I have 2 more to repair on the same unit coming up here- yep a newer Aaon. Thanks.

Found an empty circuit on aaon package unit. Leak was on the hot gas reheat line in the chase between compressor and evap sections. A factory screw point was contacting the line. Have had several units with leaking reheat coils. All less than 5 years old. Oh and a stoped filter drier from factory .

I have found and fixed several leaks in Aaons this past month. These leakers were all over the place, very random to say the least.
