Nice new black pipe going into a rusty piece at unit. Afterall, those darn reducing tees should come with instructions. Or maybe they couldn't read the Chinese directions.

First of all, the tee shown is not a sediment trap. In order to be considered a sediment trap, it must have a 90* vertical axis so the leg functions as a trash can using gravity.

That pipe must be protected from the element such as painting or wrapping.

The pipe is inadequately supported.

The issue of sed. traps outdoors is controverial. Some AHJs prohibit it fearing condensate freezing while others don't see liquid condensate but do see particulate foreign matter that does get catch in the traps. The code just says all gas utilization equipment must have sed. traps except fireplaces.

NAT. gas has alot of moisture in it last winter here in okl. I had alot of reg. freeze up no gas to the buildings so you can see how the sed. trap could freeze and rupture.

i was refering to the condensate line not being there they put a P-trap but nothing else

Normal commercial rooftop installation of condensate drain. nothing more is needed, water runs onto roof just as rain would fall onto it.

In Florida we have to drain condensate off of the roof at least in a roof scuffer or it will not pass code.

Up here most units just have the ptrap off the condensate dripping onto the roof. Sometimes a patio block will be put under it to dissipate the water so its not constantly hitting the same point on the roof.

Same here. Just pipe it out onto the roof appropriately to meet the manufacturer requirements and nothing more. From time to time the customer or we run a longer drain to a particular point for various reasons. 99% are like the unit pictured in this thread.

It is called a Scupper.

When I took the test for my Certified Plumbers license there were a couple of questions on the exam about the minimum size of Roof Scuppers, a few of the guys I was talking to after the exam didn't know what they were.

that wont pass inspection around here if they dont go off the roof.... some of the older inspectors wanna see copper still
