I would say you are gonna need a router but not for routing but the DHCP server built into the switch side of it. I've not seen a wireless switch with a DHCP server in it but have never actually looked for one either.

What will the wireless part be for? We did a small with a FX40 in a boiler room which was directly across the hall from their office where they used wireless exclusively on their network. Rather than pull a hard line over to their switch we just picked up a ethernet to wireless adapter (i think it was actually marketted for the old Xbox/PS2 for getting game consoles on a wireless network). Works great though.

We did one similar to MCP. The only problem we had was we had to assign a static IP in the router for the game controller wireless thing. We found out that if the FX was powered down the wireless router re-assigned a different IP to the connection. After assigning the static IP it worked fine.
We have had people ask if we can get an FX to connect via a remote wireless , like a WiFi that they use on Laptops. We haven't had time to dig into it but that should be do-able too. If you try that let us know.If sense were so common everyone would have it !
All opinions expressed are my own. Any advice provided is based on personal experience, generally accepted fact or publicly available information. As such, it is worth exactly what you paid for it, not a penny more not a penny less !!

I thought he wanted to gain wireless access to the FX from another computer with a wireless card in the area hence the router.
Aren't you guys telling him how to get a wireless conection for the FX to get on an existing wireless network.
Maybe some clarification is needed.

Yeah i'm not sure what he wantes to do with it. The thing we used should make it possible to connect it to a wireless network or just directly to another PC (i think they call that ADHOC or something).

Any of the shelf Wifi router can do what you want. Configure the router so that it is using the same subnet as the FX.
Example the FX is 192.168.0.??? or something.
The router will be 192.168.0.1
Your laptop will connect to the wifi and get an IP dynamically assigned. The FX will have a static IP. And your wired machine can also be dynamic.
