My doctor gave me six months to live, but when I couldn't pay the bill he gave me six months more.

you'd be surprised. Depending where you live it can get near freezing for 4 months out of the year. Sure, it's not Minnesota but the heat is on 4-5 months out of the year.

But, it's a different answer in diff. parts of the country. Here in Colorado, we get 325 sunny days a year. Temp can go from 0 to 60 in a day. Can be below 0 for days. Have seen -24, and 110. Modulating would be great......... In LA, I would spend the money on a nice 95% with a high efff. heat pump. But thats a guess, I dont live there. You got money burnin a hole in yer pocket? You want a fancy furnace, by all means, buy one!

I would say modulating all the way. It is the most ideal thing to get for comfort and efficiency.

Mod with a stat that tells the furnace what to do based on the needs of the house, room temp, set temp, etc. No timers, no algorithms guessing, no 2 stage stats. Modulating stats.

Otherwise a good 2 or 3 stage with 2 stage or communicating control respectively.
