    York model and serial numbers

I am not a york guy at all. The model numbers always confuse me. Can you tell the date of manufacture by reading the serial number? I took out a nice used york Stellar series the other day to reinstall in a good friends house. Well I got it installed, along with a new edge Carrier stat, rewired the A/H for aa heat pump, and Then I thought I don't know what refrigerant it is. Nowhere does it say r-22 or r-410a. I don't have the nomenclature and it does not say on the rating plate. Can anyone help me out on this?

If you can't figure out what refrigerant you have, you shouldn't be working on it.

    Question York model and serial

If you took out a unit . How did you recover the refrigerant into the proper reclaim cylinder?

There had been a leak on the indoor coil for a while, it was already out of refrigerant. It was mismatched, the air handler was 20 years old and this unit only looks to br about 2 or 3 years old. /the model # was ef4d042 something. I'll get the # today. Thanks

Thanks beenthere. I've only ever ripped out york units, never install them. So there is alittle learning curve.
