Fine Tune Refrigerant Charge - on warm day only?

A contractor told me that he would return in the spring when the temp was 75 degrees to fine tune the refrigerant charge on his proposed system. Is this necessary?

Also, if the lineset is replaced does a line drier still have to be installed?

That is how i install a/c in the colder months if possible. A drier should be in the new unit purchased or one should be added if the system is open for repair.

That's the way to get the best performance from your AC system.

A drier should be someplace in all new systems. Sometimes driers are built into the AC condenser unit by manufacturers. In these situations you won't have an external filter drier.

It's hit or miss to get the refrigerant amount right when the outdoor temp is lower than 60 degrees. The manufacturers technical data doesn't go that low. Sounds like your installer is willing to go the extra mile to make sure your system is running right.

That is the way I do it also. It is better to come back and make sure it is perfect. A drier is usually installed in most of the newer condensors already.

sounds like a GOOD inataller to me ,on those issues any way .

We always do a return check on systems installed in the off season. The factory charge is normally right on but adjustments still need made because of line length. Power also needs to be applied to the outside unit several days before the run test (breaker on)
