So about 1 month ago I finally finished my active service in the Marine Corps, and am looking to get back into HVAC. I have been completely out of the trade for the past 4 years, and it showed when I went in for a job interview last week and had to take a test. I really dont remember everything that I learned back when I graduated from tech school. Anyway, can anyone recommend a refresher course that is out there? I have heard that a lot has changed, but nobody really seems to want to tell me what has changed. Any help?

nothing has changed, same garbage as usual, employers will say that to give you little pay.

my tech school offers free refresher courses for life maybe check where u went if they do the same

I have been looking at refresher courses, but for some reason my school does not offer one. I have been trying to keep busy reviewing my notes from years past, but I have been working hard at getting over the swine flu here recently, so it had me not doing much for a little while, just starting to get better here in the past 2 days. Anyway, back to studying

Rses.org home study courses and all sorts of training programs. Also if there is a local chapter, meetings are free and usually some training at meetings. I agree Or join RSES and get on SAM and also read over the Old RSES Journal On line and also the new one.

Do some ride along might even get a job out of it.

I would love to do one of these courses, but in my financial situation right now, I just cant afford it. I'm gonna have to just read my stuff from school(if I can find it all), and go from there. I might be able to talk to one of my former employers and see if they will let me do some ride alongs. Oh well, more phone calls tomorrow I guess

Find out who is doing secure goverment work in you area, and apply with them. When I was Service manager, had a hard time finding people, that had clean driving record, could pass long term D/A test. We had to send two guys to most jobs, just for the amount of equipment that had to be carried in, plus one escort for two was a definate plus, with getting the job finished sooner.
