Furnace replacement
Were having the furnace in our house replaced. I've decided to have a modulating Fraser Johnston installed, I was told that they are the same as York. I already have a programmable t-stat, but asked the contractor about upgrading to a t-stat like a Honeywell IAQ. His recommendation was to reuse the current t-stat. He said that the new furnace is very intelligent and doesn't need a better t-stat then what I have.
Do you agree with his statement, or should I insist on upgrading to a better t-stat?

The mod uses a single stage thermostat. The IAQ may give you a slightly tighter temp control.
If you also have A/C, then the IAQ will be worth getting.

The only concern with a brand like this would be if the distributor changes brands (and Frazier usually comes through a local supply house), then you may have problems getting warranty parts. If you went with York itself, then you could hope they will be around for years and have someone in your area selling them. My experience has been that local HVAC supply houses change brands about every three years!

Have the installer show you the differences in the thermostats and then you decide. Remember, it is the end user who has to be comfortable with the control stat!

Frazier Johnson is regional just as is Luxaire, Moncrief, Winchester ETC, parts will never be an issue for that unit anymore than they will be for York. As far as the original question, it would depend on your current stat. We always change stats when we install new equipment unless there is already a new high line stat in place. If this is the case go with your contractors recommendation. I am partial to the Honeywell IAQ as are alot of other contractors, lots of nice features.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like all that's needed is a single stage t-stat like I have. Comes down to whether or not we want to upgrade just to get the programming options of the IAQ.
