I read about a guy who had a similar problem, so what the sleep lab did was let him wake and sleep as he wanted to.

Gradually he got totally out of phase with daylight but then eventually he got back in phase and the problem left him.

The trick was letting this condition take its course so he was once again in sync with normal day/night rhythms.

Dunno' if it works for everybody.

The older you get, the less sleep you need. Sunlight plays an important role also.
PM me if you want more info. I've learned a lot about this.

I am the same 5 hours a night if I fall asleep at 7 up at midnight. Been like that as long as I can remember. About twice a year I will sleep double that but I feel like garbage the whole day. I don't even have an alarm clock in my room

Oh, I usually wake up about five thirty everyday ... I go to bed about eleven or so. I used to not need an alarm clock, I listen to music for about fifteen minutes or until the dog insist on being walked.

    I guess I'm the exception.

It's still a struggle to drag my azz out of bed at 5:30.

I'd sleep till 6 if they'd let me.
