1. Respect Seniors, watch and learn from them, as they have aquired lots of experience that you can learn faster from and save a lot of trial and errors at the expense of customers.

Ditto on Respect.
It's tied for first place along with Honesty, Reliability, a desire to Learn and (big in my book) COMMON SENSE !
I'll have to get back to y'all on the next 5.If sense were so common everyone would have it !
All opinions expressed are my own. Any advice provided is based on personal experience, generally accepted fact or publicly available information. As such, it is worth exactly what you paid for it, not a penny more not a penny less !!

Remember those three little words ... I DON'T KNOW, {but i'll find out}
Your navel is not a periscope = Keep your head out of your butt

1. How to communicate effectively. (to their piers, to their management and to their customers). To tailor their communication style to their audience.
2. A passion for learning new things
3. Mechanical, electrical, physics basic apptitude.
4. Ability to interpret theory and apply it to the given situation.
5. SYSTEMATIC TROUBLESHOOTING SKILLS (should probably be #1 on the list) (ex: 7 step problem solving, fishbone diagrams, etc)
6. Desire for the job
7. Ethics
8. Time management
After these things, the rest comes easy. Unfortunatly not all these things can be effectively taught.
