I was here two years ago asking about my 1980's Heatform fireplace...
After two winters of this heat-robbing monster, I've had enough!
I'm now considering a Mendota Fullview gas insert (propane). It's not cheap, but it's a super-nice looking unit with a larger than usual viewing area (a must for the wife!) and Mendota seems to have an outstanding reputation in the industry.
Is there anything about this unit I should be aware of in advance? The installer says he can run the fresh air and exhaust tubes up the chimney without cutting any part of the Heatform. He seems like a good guy, but he's running out of a SMALL shop and is somewhat slow in getting me info (he's a good ol' boy...and let's just say he's a little "laid back"). I ASSume he wouldn't be a Mendota dealer if he didn't know what the heck he was doing.
Anyway, if there's anything obvious I should be asking NOW, I'd appreciate any input from the pros in the house.
